PROJECT: Station Doors
COMMENTS: This way to the trains!
This basement room is filled with a scale model railroad layout, and needed a bit of privacy from, among other things, the incursions of the family cat -- who is decidedly not to scale! But such a room deserves an entrance to match its purpose anyway.
We created some Station Doors to separate the room from the rest of the house, evocative of a real train station.
The Red Oak door frames and woodwork are stained and finished such as commercial woodwork often is, and the custom black wrought-iron hardware might be at home in a train station at the turn of the last century, giving the doorway a timeless feel. The inset handles on the opening door panel complete the picture.
So turn back the clock, shrink down in scale and it's All Aboard!
