PROJECT: Cozy Kitchen
This kitchen was outdated and a bit uncomfortable to be in--but now it is cozier than the inside of a hobbit's home.
We replaced the old doors and drawer fronts with solid panels incised to create the picket-fence pattern. Then we installed lights in a special soffit under all the cabinets.
Yellow is said to be the color of attraction, and the shade that my customer chose is warm, attractive, and inviting. She chose a slightly darker tone for the cabinets behind the doors, and washed the same darker color into the edges and crevices of the doors, creating an antique finish.
We also enlarged the existing space for the refrigerator, when the old unit needed to be replaced. But we didn't throw everything out: the distinctly "fifties" look of the wavy soffit over the sink turned out to fit the new design quite well. Perhaps it's in homage to the original.
The outcome is that the kitchen is finally a joy to be in...and very cozy!
