Although it is accessible from both the house and the adjoining screened porch, the room can be closed off from the rest of the home to create a cozy watery retreat. This also keeps high humidity levels from invading the house. The addition of cedar plantation shutters gives the room privacy (see page 4 of "Specialty Items" to view the shutters). Walls and ceiling are covered in clear Redwood; the deck is built of 2 X 6 tongue-and-groove Redwood. With little or no maintenance, this wood will withstand the moist environment. We built the entire structure, including foundation, framing, siding, doors and windows, supplying heating and cooling ductwork and insulation, trim and finish, roofing, and installing the hot tub. Later we built and installed the cedar plantation shutters on all the windows. Shown below is the exterior of the newly finished room, before paint, trim, and outside stairway. Wood: Western Red Cedar exterior; Redwood interior.
