PROJECT: Library
Comments: Bookshelves line the walls ! ...the clients love books, and wanted to give their main room the look of a traditional English library or study.
The shelves are built of solid wood, logged from trees which would otherwise have been discarded, and air-dried for three years.
The window seat provides a cozy spot to wile away the afternoon with a book. Underneath, behind hinged drop-down panels, is storage for large books, games and puzzles.
To the left of the windows, shelves were built into the curved steps of the stairwell, and the front face of the tall shelf unit curves to match the stairs.
To the right, shelves curve in towards a doorway, with room for oversize books on the wide end of the unit. Opposite is a narrow case for small, precious books and knick-knacks.
The shelves under the interior window on the opposite side of the room provide space for still more books, and the top shelf invites a display of seasonal items. To the left of the cloth-bound classics, a set of deeper shelves are sized to hold classics of another era: the clients' collection of vinyl LP records.
