Play Ball!

PROJECT:

Children's Play Rooms

Comments:   "Mommy, can we go over here and play while daddy's seeing the doctor?"

Helicopter

When the Kansas City Veterans' Hospital was planning a new medical wing for the treatment of veterans experiencing post-traumatic stress, they decided that the waiting areas for patients' family and friends were not waiting areas.

They were PLAY areas.

Kids, after all, get to be kids! Pop open one of the cubbyholes in the apple tree, and see what's behind it. Then turn the wheel and change what's behind it. What fun

The Kansas City Royals baseball team decided to get into the act too. Their Royals Charities donated toward the projects as part of their All-Star Legacy project -- a gift to the Veteran's Hospital Kansas City in conjunction with the 2012 Major League All-Star Game in Kansas City. They wanted to leave more than just the memory of a great ball game to the greater Kansas City community.

Interactive Tree

So they provided some ideas for rooms devoted to play, by invoking America's favorite pasttime: Baseball!.

We helped implement the project by building interactive toys, games and displays for the three play rooms. Here are some of the other fun things to do!
